Persuasive Communication Skills Blogs

Persuasion is important because, in order to succeed, you need to gain the willing cooperation of others. And therefore, you need to persuade people that the content of your message is:

  • True
  • Right/ Good
  • Practical

If other people listen to your message and conclude that its content is UNTRUE, or WRONG or BAD or IMPRACTICAL, then they will not give you their cooperation.

Truth. Persuasive communicators need to ensure that their messages are true. And perceived to be true. Than means that they must be able to show their sources and validate their authenticity.

Right (Good). Persuasive communicators need to ensure that their messages are right, meaning Morally right and good. That means linking their message to high order moral principles such as justice and fairness. If the message is perceived to be an expression of the morally right and good, then you are more likely to gain agreement.

Practical. Persuasive people need to be able to ensure that their methods are perceived as practical, DO-ABLE. If the listener perceives the message is good but IMPRACTICAL, (impossible to implement) then they won’t want to give their cooperation.

If you want to be more persuasive, then work on your message to make perceived as true, right, good and practical.
