Manage Yourself

It is said that, "The greatest victory is the victory over your own self".

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to achieve complete mastery over your own self; you could live a life with no unnecessary worries, with no lingering self doubts, with no anger over the events of the past, with no destructive bad habits and with a perfectly poised mind.

If you gained mastery over yourself, then you would be able to improve a little every day and you would be moving closer and closer to your idealised view of your own future.

Is it possible to gain victory over yourself?

Yes. But it would take a firm commitment and lots of time. You may not even live long enough to gain full victory but the attempt itself would be an interesting and rewarding challenge.

And any small improvement in your capacity to gain control over yourself would result in measurable differences in your performance and therefore, in your tangible life-results.

So how could you begin to take control over yourself?

The simple answer is this, "Start small, and build".

If you want to make changes then there are two ways to try it:

  • Through a revolutionary change.
  • Through an evolutionary change.

Evolutionary change as a means to gain self-mastery

If you want to change yourself, you need to evolve into the "new you" over time, by means of making a larger number of smaller successive modifications, over time.

Start small and build.

If you want to be more organised, start small and build. Start by making sure you tidy up your work station every day.

If you want to lose weight, start by cutting out snacks in the morning. Then after you have done that for two weeks, cut out the snacks in the afternoon.

Then later, cut out the bedtime snacks. In two months, you will be eating only breakfast, lunch and dinner. No snacks. And the weight will melt away over a six month period. No drama. No pain. No problems.

If you want to improve your education, start small and build. Read for one half hour every day.

Take one half hour off your TV time and replace it by reading instead. Read something educational and beneficial to your ability to earn more money.

To earn more you must learn more

If you read more, you will learn more and you will later earn more.

Intelligent reading every day will increase your earning capacity and, in five years, you will have doubled your earnings. And you will double them again for every five years that you maintain the habit of intelligent reading every day.

The reason for that is this: hardly anyone else is doing it.

If you did some intelligent reading every day, you would be literally, one in half a million. Most people don't read intelligently, with a definite purpose to improve their income, everyday.

If you did read intelligently, with a definite purpose to increase your income, then you would increase your income with no drama. No pain. No problems.

Improve your relationships

If you wanted to improve your personal relationships, you could do that simply too.

You would simply have to ensure that every day, you made absolutely certain to use more kind words to the ones that you love the most. And you would, simultaneously, methodically remove all negative or unkind or harsh, derogatory or mocking language patterns.

Then over time, your relationship with your important people would evolve into something more pleasant and relaxed; with fewer upsets, arguments and bad moods.

This would all happen with no drama. No pain. No problems.

A walk around the block

The same approach could be taken to exercise; start small and build.

  • Start with a walk around the block, and build.
  • Start with an empty barbell, and build.

Two years from now you will have built yourself up to a point where you have endless endurance and a serious six-pack.

This would all happen with no drama. No pain. No problems.

With your promptness. Start small and build. Leave five minutes earlier than you do now. Catch the earlier bus.

Manage your daily habits

Managing yourself is a matter of managing your daily habits. And you can do that in an evolutionary way. You can be whoever you decide to be, if you take it in small chunks, and build better habits over time.

Simple!
