How can I be a better leader

Here is a question that many people are asking. "How can I become a better leader?" "How can I develop my leadership skills?"

Do you want to develop your leadership skills?

If you do, then you will need a specific method.

They key to developing your leadership skills, is to recognise that all good leaders think differently from non leaders.

Thinking like a leader is what makes leaders, leaders.
i.e. If you want to act like a leader, then you must first learn to think like a leader.

What is the difference between the thought patterns of leaders and those of non leaders?

Let us compare two differences that exist between the thought patterns of leaders and non leaders.

Here are the two main differences that exist between the two groups:

  1. Non leaders think about pursuing pleasure - Leaders think about pursuing high achievement.
  2. Non leaders think short range - Leaders think long range.

Let us look at each aspect of leadership psychology.

Non leaders think about pursuing pleasure - Leaders think about pursuing high achievement and material values

Most people don't know it but they have accepted the philosophy of hedonism. Leaders have not accepted the philosophy of hedonism.

Hedonism is the philosophy that asserts that the purpose of life is the pursuit of pleasure. That the good life is a life of pleasure: Sex, drugs and rock and roll. Therefore, you should eat, drink and be merry. Live only for today. Forget tomorrow and have another beer. Seek pleasure. Seek beer. Be happy.

Leaders do not believe in hedonism. They are rationalists

  • Leaders seek high achievement, which demands a life of effort and self-discipline.
  • Leaders spend their time in Training; rather than eating cakes.
  • Leaders spend their time in Effort; rather than resting.
  • Leaders spend their time in Study rather than sleeping.

The pursuit of values is the mind-set of a leader

The name we give this philosophy is "rational optimism".
Rational optimism is the philosophy that asserts that the purpose of life is the pursuit of achievement; not of sensory pleasures. That the good life is a life of goals, effort and disciplined achievement.

Therefore you should NOT eat, drink and be merry.
DONT Live only for today.
Instead, think carefully about tomorrow and seek answers to scientific and technical problems. Study, train, plan and adapt.

Non leaders think short range - Leaders think long range

Consistent with the above notes, leaders think about the long range future.
Non leaders don't.
Non leaders say "Don't worry! We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

Leaders act today in order to achieve a long range goal.
Leaders ask, "What do we have to do today that will help us achieve our goals next year?"
Like all intelligent thinkers; leaders think long range.
They key to developing your leadership skills is to recognise that all good Leaders think differently from non leaders.

If you want to act like a leader, then you must first learn to think like a leader.

Here is some advice:

  • Don't think about pursuing pleasure. - Instead train yourself to think about pursuing high achievement and material values.
  • Don't think short range. - Instead train yourself to think long range.
