Short Management Training Courses

Short management training course

Many people are looking to attend a short management course.

  1. Some people need only a short course (of one or two day's duration), that will organise their own thoughts, on their approach to leadership and management.
  2. Some people are not able to attend a longer course, because they cannot spare the time away from the workplace.

Therefore only a short management course will do.

What would a good short management course be like?

A good short management course would be crammed-packed; full of valuable information.
A short management training course would be more intense, than would a longer course.

If you are training harder, then you must train more briefly

Harder workouts are, by necessity, shorter workouts. You cannot work flat out for long, extended, drawn out periods of time.
And the opposite should be true.

Short management training courses should be correspondingly more intense

If you have only a short period of time to train, then you need that short training period to be of more intense training. Meaning that you would expect a lot of information to be thrown at you within a short period of time.

Is expecting a lot of information to be thrown at you in a short time, a feasible goal, or will working intensely result in feelings of overwhelm?

It is possible to get through a lot of information in two days, provided that the following is true.

  1. The course material is highly organised and very well structured.
  2. The course has no weak points. Meaning: All the points made on the course are important points; there are no unnecessary "Fillers".
  3. We start on time and get straight down to business.
  4. The course steams along at a good speed.
  5. All the delegates come back from tea breaks on time.
  6. Everyone works hard and gives their best.
  7. We have fun doing it. Meaning; we train hard, but we do it with a good sense of humour.

The content of the short course should cover all the must know information that is essential knowledge for all leader managers

That essential knowledge includes.

1. How to set specific goals; and how to communicate them to the people who need to know.

2. How to improve your communication skills; in terms of using language that is accurate, persuasive and optimistic.

3. How to build practical plans; Meaning, how to organise and prepare your team and induce them to do only the most valuable things; instead of doing the things they like doing, and avoiding the things they don't like doing. Getting the team to operate according to detailed plans, not by their mood or by their preference.

4. How to correct bad, or poor, behaviour; How to speak to people who are not following the plan or who are implementing the plan in ways that are below standard. You need to correct their behaviour and get them back on track. But most people hate having their behaviour corrected by managers!

So how should the manager best word their feedback message, when their intention is to correct the behaviour of a colleague and to try to engage them in a piece of behaviour modification?

This is a common problem for managers and we need to cover it.

5. Self-management; How are you going to manage yourself?

If you come into work, dispirited, late, disorganised, tired, disruptive, scruffy, depressed and cynical, then you really won't be in a proper position to add much value to the rest of the team.

Physician, Heal thyself

Make yourself into a person that can justifiably lead and manage a team; by virtue of your virtues.

Remember that:

  • You cannot demand respect from others.
  • Instead you must earn respect from others.

And you earn respect by self-control, self-discipline and never coming to work, dispirited, disorganised, disruptive, depressed or cynical.

Instead you will become a role model. You come to work prompt, spirited, well organised, energetic, optimistic, confident and well groomed.
You are a person who is capable of earning respect by virtue of your self-discipline and self-control.
Then you really would be in a proper position to add much value to the rest of the team.

6. Leadership. If you have all five of the previous notes, then you can combine them and induce feelings of cooperation and coordinated effort in the rest of the team.

This ability of yours, the ability to get the best performance possible out of the team, as a whole, is the reason d'etre of the leader manager.
Intentionally inducing the best possible performance from the team is the result of practicing and perfecting the previously described five skills.

The best possible performance from the team can only be obtained by you if you have already mastered:

  1. Setting and communicating goals.
  2. Accurate language.
  3. Proper planning.
  4. The ability to get those irritating, errant people, back on track.
  5. The ability to master your own mind, mood and behaviour.
  6. (The Leadership of others. Getting the best performance from the team).

This is the field of content that constitutes our short management training course.
