High Performance Teams Training - Morning

High Performance G.A.M.E Plan - Goal. Attitude. Method. Energy.

How do you achieve the best productivity from yourself and others?

To become more productive, we must adopt a G.A.M.E. plan.

High Performance G.A.M.E. Plan

G.A.M.E: Goals, Attitude, Method, Energy

Goals are the starting point of all achievement.

Goals need to be:

  • Ambitions
  • Worthwhile
  • Valuable

The goal must be clearly communicated

In order that the goals are clearly understood, you must use language that is:

  • Specific
  • Defined
  • Numerical

The goal must inspirational

You should provide good reasons why the goal is worthy. If you don’t supply good reasons, then the team won’t be motivated to achieve the goal.
Reasons come in two forms: Positive reasons and negative.

So, you should list all the pleasurable benefits we enjoy if we achieve the goal.

And you may wish to list the painful penalties we will suffer if we don’t.
(The carrot and the stick).

Please note: Most people respond better to positive motivations.

Your attitude is the sum of your thoughts, feelings and beliefs about any issue.
You have attitudes towards everything and everyone.
Attitudes can be positive, negative or mixed.

Attitudes affect results because attitudes affect actions, (and actions affect results).
Positive attitudes are one of the causes of high performance.
Negative attitudes are one of causes of poor performance.
Positive and negative attitudes tend to create their corresponding results.

How to Develop a Can-Do attitude

It is important to develop a Can-Do attitude.

What is the Can-Do portion of the job?
What can be done and how?

Be wary of spending too much time discussing the NO-Can-Do portion of the job.
What cannot be done and why?

Intelligent Action. Observe Feedback. Adaptive Change.

Persistence is the quality of resilience. People with persistence do not give up in the face of setbacks, disappointments and temporary defeat.

They simply rewrite their plans and come back stronger.

Persistent people do not see failure as failure, but rather as feedback.

High performance teams treat setbacks as feedback- not as failure. They use feedback as a means of informing their next adaptive change to their actions.

This is the essence of persistence. Action, feedback, change.

Summary / Action Planning

High Performance Teams Training - Afternoon

G.A.M.E. plan, Method

On its own, a positive mental attitude is not enough.

High performance teams use the best methods.

Methodology is one of the keys to achieving high performance.

Method implies: Preparation, analytical thinking, systems.

Peak Performance is based on preparation; making ready before the event.

Analytical thinking

Everything that exists is capable of being resolved into its component parts. It is usually necessary to understand the component parts of the whole.

Everything has an optimum sequence. We must not only do the right things, we must do them in the right order.

G.A.M.E. Energy

High performance teams need to be energetic - both mentally and physically.

Energy is essential to everything. Energy is defined as “The capacity to do work”.
High performance teams need to be energetic.
Both mentally and physically.

Mental Energy

Your success is dependent on your mind
Mind Power implies:

  • Logic
  • Creative imagination
  • Memory

Physical energy

Your mind is dependent on your body
Physical Power implies:

  • Vitality
  • Endurance
  • Strength

Put the G.A.M.E plan into action.

Summary action plan, close.

The course was brilliant! Informative and lots of useful things to think about along with tool kits to use. I feel a lot more confident in myself and the way I will handle conflict going forward and prioritising. The trainer was excellent! I sometimes struggle with maintaining full attention for such a long time but Jez kept me listening at all times, made it fun and was very welcoming. All content was covered in an understandable and clear way.
