Personal Management Training

Learning how to control yourself

Personal management training means learning to take more control over what you think, feel, say and do:

  • If you want to improve the external world, you must first take control of the internal world.
  • If you cannot control yourself, then you have no chance of controlling anything else.

But if you can gain mastery over yourself, if you can learn to control your thoughts, language and actions, then you have a good chance of controlling your personal circumstances.

Self-control. Self-mastery. Self discipline. Self-awareness. Self-development.
These are the things I am suggesting would make the biggest difference to how your life turns out.
Those people who lack self-control, lack self discipline, those who do not even attempt to develop themselves, are the ones who don't do very well.
Those who do master themselves and can control their thoughts, feelings, language, and action, are the ones who progress to the highest achievement.

I have just mentioned the four major aspects of personal management training.

  1. The ability to control your thoughts
  2. The ability to control your feelings
  3. The ability to control your language
  4. The ability to control your actions

Let us look at each one in turn.

1. The ability to control your thoughts

You are, literally, what you think. Your character is the sum of all your thoughts.

  • If you think fear thoughts, you are a fearful person.
  • If you think optimistic thoughts, you are an optimistic person.
  • If you think about robbing banks, eventually you will tend towards bank robbery.
  • If you think about building a business, eventually you will build a business.

For here is the rule that governs us all.

You become whatever you think about

You become whatever you think about. And therefore, it is absolutely vital that you take conscious control of the content of your mind.

Don't let go of the controls in your own mind. Think about thinking. Think about what you are thinking about. You can control your thoughts. And since you become whatever you think about, you can control whatever will become of you.

Therefore you need to take control of the content of your own mind. Direct it away from what you fear, direct it away from what you remember, and direct your mind towards what you want to become.

2. The ability to control your feelings

This point flows automatically from the preceding point. Because not only do you become whatever you think about, but also;

You feel whatever you think about

You feel whatever you think about. If you think about food, you feel hungry. If you think that you will win, you will feel confident. If you think you will lose you won't feel confident. If you think she is lying to you then you will feel annoyed. If you think you will be late, then you will feel stressed. If you think you are in trouble then you will feel worried.

You don't feel what is: you feel what you think is.
You feel, emotionally, what you think is the case, not what factually is the case.
So do not live in a world generated by wild speculation and "what if's"........
Live in a world of careful thought and controlled thought. The best possible thought that you can muster.

Think it through!
It is important that you do.
Because you feel whatever you think about.

3. The ability to control your language

The ability to control your language follows on from your ability to control your mind and feelings.

If you can control your mind and feelings you will automatically be able to more easily control your language.

  • Don't verbalize your anger. Verbalize the facts that lead to your anger, not the anger itself.
  • Don't verbalize your fears. Verbalize the facts that lead to your fear, not the fear itself.
  • Don't verbalize negative feelings. Verbalize the facts that lead to the feelings, not the feelings themselves.

Deal with the facts first

On the other hand, it is good to verbalize the positive emotions.

  • Feel free to verbalize your optimism.
  • Feel free to verbalize your goals.
  • Feel free to verbalize your appreciation.

Control and direct the content of your conversation towards a better future.

4. The ability to control your actions

Again, this follows on from the previous three ideas.
If you control your thoughts, and if you control your feelings, and if you control your language, then you will be in a good position to control your physical actions.
If you control your actions, and reactions, then over the long stretch, you will control your circumstances.

Action is the result of thought.

And your actions generate your long term results.

  • Good thoughts lead to good feelings, which lead to good actions, which lead to good results.
  • Bad thoughts lead to bad feelings, which lead to bad actions, which lead to bad results.

Take control of your actions and you take control of your long term life results.

If you don't or won't take control of your actions, then you will lose control over your long term results, and you will have to rely on luck, to win.

But I recommend you don't rely on luck.

I recommend you rely on yourself.

  • Take control of your own thoughts.
  • Take control of your own emotions.
  • Take control of your own mouth.
  • Take control of your own bad habits.

Do all this and the final victory is yours for the taking.
