You may find the following will help with your Stress Management skills training.

Are your managers stressed?

Read the following and see if this rings bells with you.

During a course last week I had a conversation with a manager, called Mark, and he was explaining to me the stress he was under.

Mark said "I am a manager of a large team, and some of the people in my team are very difficult.
They seem to go out of their way to be troublesome.
They keep avoiding work and when I pick them up on it, they claim that I am BULLYING them and threaten to go sick with stress.

Some of the worst offenders, even complain that I am victimising them, if I try to manage their performance".

I sometimes lose my temper and end up shouting at them. Of course that makes matters worse.

So presently, I am the subject of a disciplinary action against me and that is why I have been sent on this conflict course?

I said, "Mark, you are right. Some people are dishonest and use the organisational systems which were designed to help the weak, to their own dishonest advantage.
They "work the system" and try to use it to get the maximum money for the minimum effort.
Consequently they end up abusing a system that was built to help them in times of genuine need, not to help them making a fair contribution".

There are two things to bear in mind when you are facing the dishonest type.

ONE: You must manage the conflict situations properly.

If you, as the manager, fall into the use of bad technique; for example

  1. Shouting
  2. Swearing
  3. Or pointing fingers

YOU will pay a penalty and the organisation will come down against you.

You must use language carefully, in the manner that you will learn on this course

TWO these difficult people are a test of your management skill

You must not allow yourself to become too stressed
If you become too emotionally involved, you will end up worrying yourself into a sickness

Work on your own management technique and treat these difficult people, not as a test of your patience, but rather as a test of your skill
Learn all you can about proper communication techniques and apply the principles to the people you work with.
Then go home and use them on the kids too.

Proper technique when dealing with other people are universal skills that you will find useful in all areas of your life

Mark said "I will be interested to hear what you have to say on how to deal with these difficult people"
