How to Empower Yourself

Every minute of every day, you ask and answer three key questions that have the power to change the course of your life.

Empowered people answer the key questions differently to dis-empowered people.

The three questions are:

  1. What should I focus on?
  2. What does it mean?
  3. What should I do about it?

1. What should I focus on?

In any instant, there are a billion things you could focus your mind upon.

  • You could focus your mind on this blog.
  • You could focus your mind on that person, over there.
  • You could focus upon something from the present, the future or the past.
  • You could focus your mind upon your fears or your ambitions.

There is an infinite number of things you COULD focus on, but at any single instant, you can focus on only ONE thing.

Whatever you choose to focus on becomes your personal reality.

2. What does it mean?

Whatever you have decided to focus on, becomes the target of your conscious mind; then you make your second decision, what it MEANS.

Nothing has any intrinsic meaning.

Every event is a brute fact, devoid of meaning.

You ascribe to an event its meaning.

And the meaning you give to an event becomes the second element of your personal reality.

For example,

  • If you see a spider, what does that mean to you?
  • If you say, "hello" to somebody, and they don't reply, what would that mean to you?

The event itself has no meaning.

You attach the meaning; and you can choose any meaning you wish.

Meaning is a matter of choice.

  • You can choose to ascribe a disempowering meaning to any event.
  • You can choose to ascribe a more empowering meaning to any event.

3. What should I do about it?

Now you have decided what an event means, you have the third decision to make: What are you going to DO about it?

What will you do and what will you say next?

Your whole life depends upon what you choose to do and say next.

You can wipe out your existence if you do and say the wrong things.

You can empower yourself towards your greatest ambitions, simply by doing the things that will take you there, and by NOT doing the things that will stop you.

You are empowered or disempowered by your answers to the three key questions.

Here is how empowered people answer the three questions.

1. What should I focus on?

I will focus upon whatever is in the environment that corresponds to the achievement of my goal.

2. What does it mean?

Everything that I see that relates to my goal, I regard as a resource I can use to achieve my goal.

3. What should I do about it?

I will integrate resources into a practical plan of action that I will use to make another step forward towards a better future.
