Too much pessimism will cause you to fail.

Rational optimism will cause you to succeed.

The reason is that we act according to how we feel: so if you feel you will fail, you won't take the necessary actions, or you take them without the necessary enthusiasm, and as a result you DO fail.

On the other hand,
Because we each act according to how we feel: if you feel you will WIN, you are inspired to take the necessary actions, and you take them with the necessary enthusiasm, and as a result you DO win.

This phenomenon is called the self-fulfilling prophecy.

The self-fulfilling prophecy

Napoleon Hill in his book Think and grow rich, said it like this:

If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't
If you would like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost.
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a persons will
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be SURE of yourself
Before you can win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man
But sooner or later
The one who wins

Leaders need to inspire confidence

That is their job.

Great leaders of the past knew this
Example: This is how Winston Churchill spoke:

Quote "You ask, what is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory!"

If you are a leader or manager it is important that you do not spread gloom:
Instead spread optimism for the New Year 2012.

How can you justify a sense of optimism when everyone around you seems to be so gloomy?

By focusing on the underlying factors that are driving the economy on-wards and upwards.

Leadership Training - The Effective Leader Manager

As the team leader or manager, you know that, on the technical level, you are very good. In your role as an effective and inspirational leader-manager, you recognise that there may be some gaps. Now you are searching for a method to help you to improve your skills as a team-leader and manager - click here to find out more!

1. A growing global population

The population of the planet is now 7 BILLION. And the rate of increase is increasing!
And a larger population means a bigger demand for products and services.

2. Technology is making markets more accessible

New technology is opening up world markets to everyone.
Example; Our own business now does business in foreign countries (Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, USA) that would have been impossible ten years ago.
Everyone is in contact with everyone else, which means a greater potential market for your products and services.

3. Everyone wants their life to get better

People all over the planet are striving to improve their situation: which means that the situation as a whole will always be getting better.

So, in spite of what the media shows you: all objective "quality of life indicators" are improving over time.

  1. Life expectancy is up
  2. Birth Survival rates are up
  3. Medicine improves
  4. Food production is increasing
  5. People live longer
  6. Technology that exceeds that present on the APOLLO 11 space ship is in the hands of every school teenager

In addition:

There are more scientists, engineers, mathematicians, teachers, medics, artists, entertainers, scholars, and workers, than at any other time in the history of mankind.
There is more access to education, information, statistics, ideas and books, than at any time in human history.

Example: My "kindle reader" can show me the wisdom of all mankind, enough to fill any library, and I can carry the whole thing in my pocket!
The memory and computational power of the super computers is accelerating exponentially and is likely to exceed that of the human brain by 2025!

By 2035 we may have "robot brains" capable of solving problems of such complexity that we could not even think to ask the question.

Example "How can you predict the effects of the electro static forces folding a given sequence of amino acids, so that one might build organic protein molecules to- order, with the intention of using them to create organic protein- based computers, capable of self-replication and evolutionary improvement?"

Any ideas?

Democracy is spreading

Democracy is spreading and introducing new countries to political freedom, that have been under dictatorships for many decades.

Example: Libya, Egypt.

We are seeing more Arab countries striving for political freedom. Example Syria

This is part of, what Sociologists call "the third wave of democratisation"

The First Wave --

during the 19th century, democracy was begun in Western Europe and North America. The first wave lost momentum in the interwar period between WWI and WWII when a number of dictators rose to power.

The Second Wave --

began after WWII and faded out around the 60s.

The Third Wave --

began in the mid-1970s and is still continuing today. Includes the democratization of Central, Latin, and South America as well as post-Communist Europe. The Arab spring is a continuation of the process.

Geneticists are cracking the code of disease

Geneticists are cracking the code to major diseases and will soon be able to interrupt degenerative conditions that have always been considered to be the inevitable signs of aging.

Western Nations are becoming more racially mixed

Western Nations are becoming more and more mixed, which tends to increase genetic diversity of the species, which promotes evolutionary progress and resistance to disease, and socially, breaks down artificial racial and personal prejudices.

In the UK specifically

The shrinking of the public sector
The growth of the public sector (the wealth spending sector) at the expense of a shrinking industrial Private sector (the wealth creation sector) has been finally halted.

For the next ten years, we can expect to see the wealth creating sector grow and the public sector shrink, which will make the nation, as a whole, more prosperous.
In the TV broadcast, The Good News is not mentioned

Remember that you are never told good news: because the good news does not bring in as many viewers (and therefore not as much revenue) as bad news.
Be careful that you redress the balance with a realisation that the GLOBAL good luck glass is nearly 3/4 full!
