Therefore, being able to deliver your message confidently and effectively, is a valuable skill. Unfortunately, public speaking can be a daunting prospect for lots of people, from students to top executives.

This Presentation Skills Course has been designed to help you master your nerves, show you how to appear confident, enthusiastic and to communicate your message clearly. You will learn how to prepare and structure your presentation, making it persuasive and memorable.

This training course was just what I was looking for. The captions noted at the back of the book throughout the day have been exceptionally helpful. The training day has been enjoyable with lots of interaction. As an introvert this is a huge step in my development. Timings were kept, and the trainer was helpful answering various questions during the day.

What is communication?

Communication is defined as "a transfer of information and emotion from one mind to another."

As a presenter, you need to transfer your information into the minds of others.

That means you need to transfer your:

  • Facts
  • Figures
  • Proposals
  • Ideas
  • Products
  • Services
  • Recommendations

Into the minds of others, without any loss of meaning or any misunderstanding. This means that you need to prepare your message in advance.

As a presenter you need to transfer your positive emotions:

Confidence in your message
Confidence in yourself
Enthusiasm
Motivation

As a presenter you need to NOT transfer any negative emotions:

You need to appear NOT to be:
Anxious
Doubtful
Fearful
Self-conscious

There are three major channels of communication

The three channels are words, tones, and body language.

  • Words = What you say
  • Tone = How you sound
  • Body language = How you look

Words = What you say

Your words communicate your explicit content.

It is vital that you prepare your content.

  • Prepare your content by sorting it into categories
  • Put the categories into the right order
  • Limit the amount
  • Make your key points obvious

The course content I felt was well prepared and has given me some good rational techniques for counteracting challenging behaviour. The trainer's presentation was very good, well spoken and experienced.

The Course Training Method

The training method follows this general pattern - the training is very interactive and interesting:

  1. The trainer gives a clear explanation of the point in question with specific examples.
  2. Then, the delegates practice by doing an exercise with each other.
  3. The delegates practice by doing an exercise with the trainer.
  4. All points are supported with full written notes to take away.
  5. Delegates are asked to write down an associated action, for each point made.
    (At the end of the day, we have about twenty such actions, from which the delegates choose six which are the most personally meaningful).

Note: we do not believe in placing people in any situation of embarrassment by demanding that they 'perform' in front of the whole group. So you can relax: come on this course and be at ease; ready to learn new skills!
