What is communication? A presenter needs to transfer information, positive emotions

Present your message with more clarity, conviction and confidence

Be clear on your purpose: What exactly are you trying to achieve by speaking?
Is your primary purpose to inform, convince, persuade or entertain?
You MUST give your listeners plenty of Reasons to Believe.
How can you prove that what you say is right, good, fair and real-world practical?

How to properly structure your message

The key to your success is preparation.
Impose an order on your material.
Cause, effect.
Logical sequence.
Chronological order.
Problem, cause, solution.
Problem, implication, countermeasure

How to clearly explain your message and make it more memorable

Anything that you think could be misunderstood, you should clearly define.
How to find the right words to express your exact meaning.
Use affirmative language.
Don’t talk about what cannot be done.
Talk about what CAN be done.
Finish on a positive note.

How to answer difficult questions

First thing to do is, Question the questioner:
Ask for clarification of the questioners exact meaning.

Listen out for questions that contain a hidden assumption.
Challenge the assumption and restate your own context

Decide upon the level of certainty you wish to claim.
Don’t come-across as dogmatic.

If you don’t know the answer to a question, then don’t guess.

Voice tones: How to sound right.
Notes on how to use Volume, pitch and pace.
Laugh and give them a nice smile.

How to memorise your presentation using special memory techniques

You don’t have to rely on reading from your notes or PowerPoint.
Instead you can use your memory.

How to use special memory techniques that will enable you to really master your material.
You should memorise the main structure; but never a “word for word script”

Examples and exercises on speaking from memory.

Practical exercises

We will do exercises designed to put the above techniques to into practice.
Learn by doing.

The course content was great, just what I needed to sit up and take notice. I feel sure that I can take a lot of what we discussed and use it to make me more effective and more fulfilled. The trainer's presentation was focused and direct. It was quite fast, but there was a lot of ground to cover.

The Course Training Method

The training method follows this general pattern - the training is very interactive and interesting:

  1. The trainer gives a clear explanation of the point in question with specific examples.
  2. Then, the delegates practice by doing an exercise with each other.
  3. The delegates practice by doing an exercise with the trainer.
  4. All points are supported with full written notes to take away.
  5. Delegates are asked to write down an associated action, for each point made.
    (At the end of the day, we have about twenty such actions, from which the delegates choose six which are the most personally meaningful).

Note: we do not believe in placing people in any situation of embarrassment by demanding that they 'perform' in front of the whole group. So you can relax: come on this course and be at ease; ready to learn new skills!
