Change Management Skills Blogs

Change management is important because the world is in a continual state of flux and change.

Change management training is intended to help people deal with the three major aspects of change.

  • The necessity of change
  • The practical aspects of change
  • The emotional aspects of change

The necessity of change means that there is no way to avoid the need for change. Change is the universal constant. Nothing stays the same for very long. And therefore, staying the same and simply repeating the same formula as last year, probably won’t be enough to succeed in the coming years. Everyone must progress, even to keep up with the current changes in technology, social changes and economic conditions.

The practical aspects of change means organising resources to determine the most effective means of making the necessary changes.

The main steps are:

  1. Deciding the direction of change: determining the target state. The goal.
  2. Next step is determining the material resources that will need to be assembled to make the change (these include, Money, technology and People).
  3. Next comes the additional abilities that need to be developed in order to master the change process, (this means skill, knowledge and factual information).
  4. Next is to decide the practical plan and sequencing of activities that will allow the change process to be made in the most efficient manner possible.

The emotional aspects of change, means managing most people’s resistance to change and a desire to keep with their existing patterns. Most people Hate change because change brings uncertainty. We need to help people learn to see change as a means of making things better.
